Statement
Mi trabajo apunta a ese lugar inalcanzable de comunicación total entre los sujetos. Lo inconfesable siempre designa un secreto incómodo. Por ello mis piezas son objetos cerrados, herméticos y desprovistos del valor de uso que les corresponde. Llevan consigo la imposibilidad inherente de poder entregarnos a ellos, de abrirlos, de tocarlos y de adentrarnos, a pesar de sus seductoras apariencias.
En ella se hace uso de diferentes formatos: álbumes, diarios íntimos, misales, libros de cuentas, documentos identificativos, etc., donde despliego los límites de la intimidad, con cómo gestionamos lo privado y cómo lo performativizamos y lo hacemos visible…Todo esto lo plasmo a través de desplazamientos de significado: en mis piezas se recogen silencios, se reordenan textos ya escritos en listas casi infinitas, se escriben susurros o reduzco a datos muchos de los rasgos de la personalidad y de mi propia vida.
Mi trabajo está siempre en ese lugar desafiante, entre el adentro y el afuera, colocando al espectador en una situación provocadora de si puede o debe traspassar esa linea entre el tu y el yo. El dentro y fuera. Lo privado y lo público. Con el blanco y el vacío tan intencionadamente buscado, invito al espectador a completar la pieza.
My artistic practice seeks refuge in holders: from codex to pantones, passports, albums, etc., reproducing the techniques of bookbinding.
I attempt to organize, in a similar manner to an office, the feelings emerging in the form of lists, folders and account books. I archive my existential experiences.
It’s a way to cope with secrets. The unconfessable always implies an uncomfortable place. My work points precisely to that unattainable place of perfect communication between individuals. My pieces are closed, hermetic, and devoid of the utility they have. They carry with them the inherent impossibility of getting in to them, touching them, and delving into them, despite their seductive appearance.
The way I work always has an element of provocation. I use different formats: albums, diaries, account books, identification documents, etc., where I explore the boundaries of intimacy, how we manage the private, how we make it real and visible... I’m also drawn to the beauty of crossing boundaries, and to exploring that fine line. All of this is reflected through shifts in meaning: in my pieces silences are collected, already written texts are reordered into infinite lists, whispers are written. Many aspects of personality and my own life are reduced to data.
My work is always in that challenging place between the inside and the outside, placing the viewer in a situation- whether they can or should cross that line between “you” and “me,” the inside and the outside, the private and the public.
The use of different materials determines potential in my objects. The warmth of velvet, the smoothness of the fabric, or the rigidity and opacity of materials like marble or wood, cover the objects and come back to us as visible entities.
The treatment of these holders, with techniques from other crafts such as tattooing or hunting, turns them into living entities that provoke a different reading.
Using white space and emptiness, I invite the spectator to complete the piece.
